Deadlines & Applications

Various scholarships are available for students every year.  New Scholarships are posted and deadline dates are updated as scholarship applications become available.  View the Daily Announcements on the High School homepage for listing of new local scholarships which will trickle in beginning the first of December and later.

2018-2019 COMMUNITY COLLEGE SCHOLARSHIP:

Sponsored by the Tawas Area Elks #2525

Any high school senior from the following high schools: Alpena, Arenac Eastern, Au Gres Sims, Hale ,Lincoln-Alcona,  Oscoda, Standish Sterling, Tawas Area, Whittemore-Prescott, along with any Alternative Education Academy of Iosco County may apply. The student must be attending one of the following community colleges during 2018-2019 academic school year:

Alpena Community College
Delta College
Kirtland Community College

$850.00 will be awarded to top four applicants. This application must be completed electronically, printed, and submitted to the Tawas Area Elks Lodge #2525, on or before April 2019.  The application will be available January 2019 by clicking Tawas Elks  

Elks Most Valuable Student National Foundation Scholarship

 A significant component of the scoring system is based on the overall professional appearance of the application.  Areas covered are work experience, community service, leadership, extra-curricular activities, honors and awards. Applications must be completed and submitted online at Elks  and must be received to the local Elks Lodge no later than: November 15, 2018.

Elks Gold Key Scholarship Program

This scholarship is intended to aid qualifying applicants, who could not otherwise continue their education or training past high school, and is available for study at an accredited college, university, licensed trade or vocational school.  Students must go online to Michigan Elk Gold Key and submit application online no later than  December  01, 2018.

American Business Women's Association Scholarship 

The local chapter of the American Business Women's Association is offering a $2000 scholarship to a FEMALE student who will be attending an accredited U.S. college or university.  Applicants must be a US citizen and reside in AuSable, East Tawas, Glennie, Greenbush, Hale, Harrisville, Lincoln, Mikado, National City, Oscoda, Shouth Branch, or Tawas City.  You must carry a GPA of a 3.5 or higher.  To apply email: BelleFlora@charter.net. Applications must be completed by March 31, 2019. 

The Jerry Erickson Scholarship

This scholarship is offered through the Northland Area Federal Credit Union.  Application can be found at Nothland Credit Union on January 15th.  You must be a full time high school student or college student and a Northland member in good standing.  Applicants must provide proof of a GPA of 3.0 or higher. This is a renewable scholarship. Due to address given: March 2019.  

Sunrise Side Republican Women's Annual Scholarship

Want to learn about Politics?  Want to participate and gain experience?  The Sunrise Side Republican Women's Club is offering an opportunity to do this and possibly earn a $1,000.00 scholarship.  The candidate must be a female U.S. citizen.  Open to a graduating senior who has been accepted by a public or private institution of higher learning.  They must have a GPA of 3.0 or better and must participate in activities of the Sunrise Side Republican Women's Club.  Applications can be picked up in the couseling office with a deadline date of March 15, 2019. 

Iosco County Community Foundation

Nearly $4000 in scholarships will be awarded by the Community Foundation and its affiliates this year.  Available scholarships include awards for students attending college, participating in trade school programs or certificate programs, as well as some graduate programs. Applications can be found online at  http://cfnem.org  with a deadline of March 1, 2019.
Upon filling out this application it will submit an application to the following eligible schlorships:  Tawas Community band, Tawas Football Alumni, Michael Wentworth, TAEF Harris Barkman, TAEF Coyle, TAEF George and Dorothy Green, TAEF Joseph Barkman, TAEF Clifford Lonsbury, TAEF Jensen, TAEF Elmer & Eliza Werth.

The Association of Tawas Football Alumni Scholarship

Is available to a senior football player that is planning on furthering his education after graduation from high school.   Applications can be found with football coaches.

Bopp Busch Manufacturing Company Scholarship

Candidates must be residents of Arenac or Iosco counties, must be planning on attending a post-secondary institution and preference may be given to students following a course of study in the skilled trades.  Applications open in Febraury and can be found in the counseling office, deadline date to address given is:  April, 2019.

The Carl and Christine Huebner Scholarship for Music/ Creative Writing /Performing Arts

Available to a graduating senior from within Iosco County, carry a GPA of 2.60 or above and you plan to attend an accredited college or university. This scholarship is open to all fields of study but preference may be given to students planning to major in the field of Music, Writing or the Performing Arts.  Applications can be found online at  Iosco County Community Foundation  Deadline date to address given is no later than March 1, 2019.  

The Eleanor L. and John R. Heilman Nursing Education Scholarship

Residents of any county (including Iosco County) within the Community Foundation for Northeast Michigan and it's affiliates' service area are eligible for this scholarship. Applicants must be studying in the field of Nursing, and have a GPA of 2.8 or higher.  Qualifying applicants must visit www.cfnem.org and click on Scholarships to apply for this award. Deadline date is:  March 1, 2019.

Fraternal Order of the Eagles

(2) $1,000.00 scholarships will be awarded.  Recommendation letters are needed. This scholarship is available to current seniors only.  Application process opens in Febraury with
a deadline to the Counseling Office by:  April 2019. 

The Helen Laidlaw Foundation Scholarship

Applications can be found in counseling office or online for students pursuing a career in the health field. Nursing students are given first priority with second priority going to students entering a Pre-Med field.  You may either mail in application or drop it off at address given.  Helen Laidlaw Foundation Scholarship, 314 Newman St., East Tawas, MI  48730.  Applications can be found at: www.helenlaidlawfoundation.com All applications must be received by the foundation by April 2019. 

The Marie Samuelson Scholarship

This scholarship is for any student who has ever attended one of these schools:  the former St. Joseph Catholic School of East Tawas, the former Immaculate Heart of Mary School of Tawas City or the Holy Family School of East Tawas.  The student must be planning on attending or currently attending an accredited college or university to pursue a degree in Education.  Submit a letter of application to ICCF, P.O. Box 495, Alpena, MI 49707 or email chitch@cfnem.orgScroll down to bottom right and select Iosoc county scholarships. Include the following information:  Name and address, name of college/university you will be or are currently attending (to major in Education), career goals and reasons for applying for this scholarship and a list of school-based extracurricular activities and non-school based extracurricular activities.  Deadline date to address given is:  April 2019.

SFC Mark Jackson Scholarship

This scholarship is available to current seniors or college students who reside in Curtis Township (zip codes: 48737 or 48761) or have a Glennie mailing address.  Application opens in February and due to the counseling office by: April 2019.

Masonic Foundation Scholarship

The local Masonic Lodge is offering scholarships for the 2018/2019 school year.  Open to all seniors and past graduates. Applications can be found in the counseling office.  Application opens in February with a deadline to the office by April 2019. 

McDonald's RAY KROC Youth Achievement Award

A $1,000.00 scholarship is being offered through McDonald's of Tawas for one area high school senior.  This award, named after McDonald's Corporation founder, honors students who demonstrate the exemplified by Ray Kroc- persistence, determination, hard work and all-around excellence. Application opens in February with a deadline date back to office of: April 2019. 

Oscoda-Wurtsmith Airport Student Scholarship (open to Jrs. & Srs.)

In the past this program has been awarded for flight training ground school and flight lessons. Applicants may now utilize this scholarship for tuition assistance at a university, college or aviation training school.  All application materials can be found in the counseling office and  must be submitted to the Airport Authority no later than.  Visit www.oscairport.com for more information.  Due to address given:  April 2019.

The Quota International Club of Iosco County Scholarship

This $500.00 scholarship is offered to a high school senior who meets one of these requirements:  Has a documented hearing impairment, has a documented speech communicative disorder (or) plan on working with a teaching hearing, speech impaired persons (or) plans on working in the audiology/speech pathology field.  Applications open in Febraury and will be available in the coundseling office with a deadline to address given April 2019.

Ryan Coleman Scholarship

This scholarship was created to perpetuate the memory of Ryan Coleman, a Tawas High School student who died of cancer.  Applicants must be a high school senior who's overall GPA falls between 2.5 and 3.5, however others may apply. Whether you plan on attending a 4 year college, a two year college, vocational school or plan on going right into the work force.  All may apply. Applications are available in February from the Counseling Office.  Completed applications must be returned to the High School Counseling Office by: April 2019.  

Sand Lake Women's Auxiliary Scholarship Application

This scholarship is available to seniors (male & female) who qualify from Iosco County with a GPA of 2.75 or higher,  college enrollment status, co-curricular as well as extra-curricular activities relating to the studen's community.  Financial need as well as the applicant's intended field of study will be considered in the evaluation process.  Applications are available now in the counseling office with a deadline to address given.   April 1, 2019. 

St. Joseph Health System Community Scholarships

One $400.00 community scholarship will be awarded to a high school senior from any of these districts: Alcona, Arenac-Eastern, AuGres, Hale, Oscoda, Tawas or Whittemore-Prescott and who is pursuing a career in a health care related field.  Students must carry a minimum GPA of a 2.0, be involved in extracurricular activities or community volunteerism and (for college student, be enrolled full-time carrying a minimum of 12 credit hours.) Application is available in Febraury in the Counseling Office or on website: https://www.stmarysofmichigan.org/Foundation-Scholarships. April 2019.

St. Joseph Health System Community Scholarships

One $400.00 scholarship will be awarded each year to an eligible candidate who is a dependent of a St. Joseph Health System associate.   Application is available in January and due to the Counseling Office or by calling the Foundation at: 989-362-0159.  Deadline to address given is: April 2019.

Tawas Area Women's Club

The Women's Club of Tawas Area has scholarship applications now available in the counseling office to ALL SENIORS accepted to a 2 or 4 year college.  Application is available in February with a deadline date to the Counseling Office is April 2019. 

Tawas Braves Booster Club Scholarship

The Tawas Braves Booster Club is offering a scholarship to one female senior athlete and one male senior athlete.  Must have been enrolled for four years at Tawas Area High School, played at least two varsity sports in senior year and maintain an overall 2.5 GPA or higher. Applications available in the counseling office.  Deadline date: April 20, 2019

Tawas Kiwanis Club Scholarship

 The Kiwanis Club of Tawas has scholarship applications available in the counseling office.  The scholarship is available to ALL SENIORS accepted to a 2 or 4 year college and should be accompanied by one letter of recommendation from a teacher or school administrator and one other letter of  recommendation. Application will be available in February with a deadline date to the Counseling Office in April  2019. 

The Thomas Pintkowski Memorial Scholarship

One female and one male will receive a $500.00 scholarship.  You must have been a member of at least one varsity athletic team during your senior year, plan on attending a post-secondary institution and carry a minimum GPA of 3.0.  Applications will be available in February with a deadline to the counseling office in  April 2019.

Whittemore Speedway Scholarship

The Whittemore Racing Club is offering (3) $500.00 scholarships to area high school seniors. Information can be found in the Counseling Office.  Applications will be available in February with a deadline to the counseling office in  April 2019.

The Holy Family Council of Catholic Women Scholarship​​​​​​

Applicants must be members of Holy Family Church, active in the youth ministry, plan on attending post-secondary institution and carry at least a GPA of 2.5.  Applications will be available in February with a deadline to the counseling office in May 2019. 

Tawas Area Federation of Teachers

Applications for the Tawas Area Federation of Teachers (TAFT) Scholarship are available in the counseling office.  Applications will be available in February with a deadline to the counseling office in May 2019.
