Various scholarships are available for students every year.  New Scholarships are posted and deadline dates are updated as scholarship applications become available.  View the Daily Announcements on the High School homepage for listing of new local scholarships which will trickle in beginning the first of December and later.

2017/2018 Community College Scholarship

Sponsored by The Tawas Area Elks #2525  Any high school senior from the following high schools:  Alpena, Arenac Eastern, AuGres Sims, Hale, Lincoln-Alcona, Oscoda, Standish Sterling, Tawas Area, Whittemore-Prescott and the Alternative Education Academy of Iosco County may apply.  The student must be attending one of the following community colleges during the 2017-2018 academic school year: Alpena Community College, Delta College and Kirtland Community College. $850.00 will be awarded to the top four applicants.  This application must be completed electronically, printed and submitted to the Tawas Area Elks Lodge #2525 on or before April 2018.   For more information and application visit:  www.elks.org/lodges/LodgePages.cfm?LodgeNumber=2525&ID=15006

American Business Women's Association Scholarship

The local chapter of the American Business Women's Association is offering up a scholarship to a FEMALE student that has plans to study Business and carry's a GPA of a 3.0 or higher.  To apply email: BelleFlora@charter.net.  Applications must be completed by March 2018. 

The Association of Tawas Football Alumni Scholarship

Is available to all senior football players.  Applications can be found with football coaches.

BLACK NOTE $2,000 SMOKE-FREE WORLD SCHOLARSHIP

As part of Black Note’s goal of giving back to the community, we award scholarships of $2,000 per student on an ongoing basis. To be considered, students must meet our eligibility requirements, complete an online application and submit an essay that impresses us.  Black Note is accepting applications on a rolling basis until February 2018.  www.blacknote.com/scholarship

The Bob Scholarship

Is offered to all high school seniors actively participating in competitive tennis in Northern Michigan. Applications can be picked up in the Tawas High School counseling office. Deadline date to address given is: January 1, 2018.

Bopp Busch Manufacturing Company Scholarship

Candidates must be residents of Arenac or Iosco counties, must be planning on attending a post-secondary institution and preference may be given to students following a course of study in the skilled trades.  Applications can be found in the counseling office and deadline date to address given is:  April 2018.

The Carl and Christine Huebner Scholarship for Music/ Creative Writing /Performing Arts

Available to a graduating senior from within Iosco County, carry a GPA of 2.60 or above and you plan to attend an accredited college or university. This scholarship is open to all fields of study but preference may be given to students planning to major in the field of Music, Writing or the Performing Arts.  Applications can be found in counseling office or online.  Deadline date to address given is no later than April 1, 2018.  www.iccf-online.org

The Eleanor L. and John R. Heilman Nursing Education Scholarship

Residents of any county (including Iosco County) within the Community Foundation for Northeast Michigan and it's affiliates' service area are eligible for this scholarship. Applicants must be studying in the field of Nursing, and have a GPA of 2.8 or higher.  Qualifying applicants must visit www.cfnem.org and click on Scholarships to apply for this award. Deadline date is:  April 1, 2018.

Elks Gold Key Scholarship Program

This scholarship is intended to aid qualifying applicants, who could not otherwise continue their education or training past high school, and is available for study at an accredited college, university, licensed trade or vocational school.  Students must download their scholarship application from the  website mielksgoldkey.org  Applications must be received to the local Elks Lodge no later than: November 27, 2017.

Elks National Foundation Scholarship

The  applications  (enf.elks.org/mvs) are available in the counseling office or online.  A significant component of the scoring system is based on the overall professional appearance of the application.  Areas covered are work experience, community service, leadership, extra-curricular activities, honors and awards. Applications must be completed and downloaded from website enf.elks.org/mvs and must be received to the local Elks Lodge no later than: November 27, 2017.

Fraternal Order of the Eagles

(2) $1,000.00 scholarships will be awarded.  Recommendation letters are needed. This scholarship is available to current seniors only.  Complete application on www.tawas.net.

The Helen Laidlaw Foundation Scholarship

The Helen Laidlaw Foundation Scholarship application is now available in the counseling office or online.  for students pursuing a career in the health field. Nursing students are given first priority with second priority going to students entering a Pre-Med field.  You may either mail in application or drop it off at address given. The Holy Family Council of Catholic Women Scholarship

The Jerry Erickson Scholarship

This scholarship is offered through the Northland Area Federal Credit Union. (www.Northlandcu.com)  You must be a full time high school student or college student and a Northland member in good standing.  Applicants must provide proof of a GPA of 3.0 or higher. The Joseph Barkman Scholarship

The Joseph Barkman Scholarship is available to high school seniors and current college students. The Marie Samuelson Scholarship

This scholarship is for any student who has ever attended one of these schools:  the former St. Joseph Catholic School of East Tawas, the former Immaculate Heart of Mary School of Tawas City or the Holy Family School of East Tawas.  The student must be planning on attending or currently attending an accredited college or university to pursue a degree in Education.  Submit a letter of application to ICCF, P.O. Box 495, Alpena, MI 49707 or email chitch@cfnem.org.  Include the following information:  Name and address, name of college/university you will be or are currently attending (to major in Education), career goals and reasons for applying for this scholarship and a list of school-based extracurricular activities and non-school based extracurricular activities.  Deadline date to address given is:  April 1, 2018.

SFC Mark Jackson Scholarship

This scholarship is available to current seniors or college students who reside in Curtis Township (zip codes: 48737 or 48761) or have a Glennie mailing address.  Stop in the counseling office for an application.  Due to address given by: April 15, 2018.

Masonic Foundation Scholarship

The local Masonic Lodge is offering scholarships for the 2017/2018 school year.  Open to all seniors and past graduates. Applications can be found in the counseling office.  Deadline to the counseling office  is March 30, 2018.  PDF Document Michigan Masonic Charitable Foundation

McDonald's RAY KROC Youth Achievement Award

A $1,000.00 scholarship is being offered through McDonald's of Tawas for one area high school senior.  This award, named after McDonald's Corporation founder, honors students who demonstrate the exemplified by Ray Kroc- persistence, determination, hard work and all-around excellence.  Information can be found in the Counseling Office with a deadline date back to office of: April 2018. PDF DocumentRay_Kroc_Scholarship

The Michael Wentworth Scholarship for the Arts

You are eligible if...you are a resident of Iosco County, you will be participating in any program at an accredited institution to study the arts in the following categories; architecture, design, painting, drawing and/or art history.  Applications can be found in counseling office or online.  Deadline date to address given is no later than  April, 2018.  www.iccf-online.org

Oscoda-Wurtsmith Airport Student Scholarship

In the past this program has been awarded for flight training ground school and flight lessons. Applicants may now utilize this scholarship for tuition assistance at a university, college or aviation training school.  All application materials must be submitted to the Airport Authority no later than April 1, 2018

 

The Quota International Club of Iosco County Scholarship

This $500.00 scholarship is offered to a high school senior who meets one of these requirements:  Has a documented hearing impairment, has a documented speech communicative disorder (or) plan on working with a teaching hearing, speech impaired persons (or) plans on working in the audiology/speech pathology field.  Applications are available in the Counseling Office.  Deadline to address given is April 1, 2018.

Ryan Coleman Scholarship

This scholarship was created to perpetuate the memory of Ryan Coleman, a Tawas High School student who died of cancer.  Applicants must be a high school senior who's overall GPA falls between 2.5 and 3.5, however others may apply.  Applications are available in the Counseling Office.  Completed applications must be returned to the High School Counseling Office by: April 2018.  PDF DocumentRyan_Coleman_Scholarship (1)

Sand Lake Women's Auxiliary Scholarship Application

This scholarship is available to seniors (male & female) who qualify from Iosco County.  This scholarship is dependent upon the student's current GPA, enrollment status, co-curricular as well as extra-curricular activities.  Financial need as well as the applicant's intended field of study will be considered in evaluation process.  Deadline to address given is: April 1, 2018.  PDF DocumentSand_Lake_Womens_Scholarship

St. Joseph health system community scholarships

One $400.00 community scholarship will be awarded to a high school senior from any of these districts: Alcona, Arenac-Eastern, AuGres, Hale, Oscoda, Tawas or Whittemore-Prescott and who is pursuing a career in a health care related field.  Students must carry a minimum GPA of a 2.0, be involved in extracurricular activities or community volunteerism and (for college student, be enrolled full-time carrying a minimum of 12 credit hours.) St. Joseph Health System Community Scholarships

One $400.00 scholarship will be awarded each year to an eligible candidate who is a dependent of a St. Joseph Health System associate.   Application is available in the Counseling Office or by calling the Foundation at: 989-362-0159.  Deadline to address given is: March 2018.

The Sunrise Side Republican Women's Club Annual Scholarship

Want to learn about Politics?  Want to participate and gain experience?  The Sunrise Side Republican Women's Club is offering an opportunity to do this and possibly earn a $1,000.00 scholarship.  The candidate must be a female U.S. citizen.  Open to a graduating senior who has been accepted by a public or private institution of higher learning.  They must have a GPA of 3.0 or better and must participate in activities of the Sunrise Side Republican Women's Club.  Stop in the counseling office for information on obtaining an application. Deadline date: March, 2018. PDF DocumentSunrise Side Republican Women's Annual Scholarship

Tawas Area Education Foundation Scholarship

Tawas Area Women's Club

Tawas Braves Booster Club Scholarship

The Tawas Braves Booster Club is offering a scholarship to one female senior athlete and one male senior athlete.  Must have been enrolled for four years at Tawas Area High School, played at least two varsity sports in senior year and maintain an overall 2.5 GPA or higher. Tawas Kiwanis Club Scholarship

 The Kiwanis Club of Tawas has scholarship applications available in the counseling office.  The scholarship is available to ALL SENIORS accepted to a 2 or 4 year college and should be accompanied by one letter of recommendation from a teacher or school administrator and one other letter of  recommendation.  Deadline date to the Counseling Office is April 2018. PDF DocumentKiwanis Club Scholarship

The Thomas Pintkowski Memorial Scholarship

Whittemore Speedway Scholarship

The Whittemore Racing Club is offering (3) $500.00 scholarships to area high school seniors. Information can be found in the Counseling Office.  Applications must be received by May 1, 2018 to address given.
