Various scholarships are available for students every year.  New Scholarships are posted and deadline dates are updated as scholarship applications become available.  View the Daily Announcements on the High School homepage for listing of new local scholarships which will trickle in beginning the first of December and later.

Elks Most Valuable Student National Foundation Scholarship

The Elks Most Valuable Student Scholarship is open to any high school senior who is a US Citizen. Applicants will be judged on scholarship, leadership, and financial need.  Scholarships range from $1,000 per year to $12,500 per year.  Most Valuable Student scholarships are for students pursuing a four-year degree, on a full-time basis (minimum of 12 semester hours), in a U.S. college or university. All scholarships are in the form of certificates of award conditional upon the full-time enrollment of the winner in an accredited U.S. college or university.  Applications must be completed and submitted online at ELKS with a deadline of November 15, 2020.

Elks Gold Key Scholarship Program

The Michigan Elks Association Charitable Grant Fund Scholarship Commission, also known as the “Gold Key Scholarship Fund”, was established by the Board of Trustees of the Michigan Elks Association to provide a post-secondary education scholarship for special needs students to be funded through individual donor contributions. For the purpose of the scholarship “Special Needs” is a student that is physically challenged, currently eligible for special education services under the Federal guidelines or as may be approved by the Gold Key Commission of the Michigan Elks Association.  Students must go online to Michigan Elk Gold Key and submit an application online no later than December 1, 2020

MASFPS & NAFEPA Scholarships

MASFPS (MICHIGAN ASSOCIATION OF STATE AND FEDERAL PROGRAM SPECIALISTS) SCHOLARSHIP-will award three state scholarships ($1500, $1000 and $500) to eligible high school seniors who are on track to graduate in the spring of 2020.  Selections will be based upon the NAFEPA  (NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF FEDERAL EDUCATION PROGRAM ADMINISTRATORS) scholarship which will be sponsoring four scholarships each worth $2500 they are all non renewable.  Two scholarships are for students pursuing degrees in Education.  The other two scholarships may be awarded to applicants pursuing degrees in Education or any other field. General Federation of Women's Club of Michigan

The General Federation of Women's Clubs of Michigan will be honoring 2 $500 scholarships geared towards a student that is interested in the arts or nursing field.  Application is in the counseling office or GFWC and due back by TBD.

The Jerry Erickson Scholarship

This scholarship is offered through the Northland Area Federal Credit Union.  Application can be found Jerry Erickson  You must be a full time high school student or college student and a Northland member in good standing.  Applicants must provide proof of a GPA of 3.0 or higher. This is a renewable scholarship. Due to counseling office TBD. 

Iosco County Community Foundation

Multiple scholarships will be awarded by the Community Foundation and its affiliates this year.  Available scholarships include awards for students attending college, participating in trade school programs or certificate programs, as well as some graduate programs. Applications can be found online at Iosco County Community Foundation  with a deadline of TBD. Upon filling out this application it will submit an application to the following eligible scholarships:  Tawas Community band,  Michael Wentworth,  The Carl and Christine Huebner for Music/ Creative Writing /Performing Arts, TAEF Harris Barkman, TAEF Coyle, TAEF George and Dorothy Green, TAEF Joseph Barkman, TAEF Clifford Lonsbury, TAEF Jensen, TAEF Elmer & Eliza Werth, Dean Arbour Memorial, Carl and Helen Basel MSU , First Federal of Northern Michigan, Elenor L and John R Heilman Nursing Scholarship.

The Marie Samuelson Scholarship

This scholarship is for any student who has ever attended one of these schools:  the former St. Joseph Catholic School of East Tawas, the former Immaculate Heart of Mary School of Tawas City or the Holy Family School of East Tawas.  The student must be planning on attending or currently attending an accredited college or university to pursue a degree in Education.  Submit a letter of application to ICCF, P.O. Box 495, Alpena, MI 49707 or email chitch@cfnem.orgScroll down to bottom right and select Iosco county scholarships. Include the following information:  Name and address, name of college/university you will be or are currently attending (to major in Education), career goals and reasons for applying for this scholarship and a list of school-based extracurricular activities and non-school based extracurricular activities.  Deadline date to address given is:  TBD.

St. Joseph Health System Scholarships

St. Joseph Health System  has been providing scholarships to associates, their children, and community members since 2008.  The scholarships are made possible through individual donations from community members, business, and Ascension St. Joseph associates and volunteers.  Multiple scholarships are available thru their website St Joseph Health foundation.  Please click on the link to apply for the following.  Deadline is TBD.  If you have questions please email Michelle Bacarella at or by phone at (989) 362-0159.

SFC Mark Jackson Scholarship

This scholarship is available to current seniors or college students who reside in Curtis Township (zip codes: 48737 or 48761) or have a Glennie mailing address.  Application are available on this fill able document Mark Jackson Scholarship and can be turned into the counseling office by TBD.

Scholarship For Aircraft Maintenance Experience

Young men and women from the 'Sunrise Side", who are registered members of the Boy Scouts of America and who will have completed the 8th grade by the summer of 2020, may apply for a scholarship to gain aircraft maintenance experience during the summer of 2020.  Program lasts 7 weeks, from 7 AM to 1 PM at Oscoda Wurtsmith Community Airport. Successful applicants will study maintenance topics and tasks under experienced aircraft maintainers while assembling aircraft.  Submit an application containing a 200 word statement of why the scholarship is desired, school transcript, BSA Membership number and 3 letters of recommendation to:  OYES 206 East Park Street Oscoda, MI  48750.  by TBD.  Applicants will be expected to interview for positions.  Up to six scholarships will be awarded for the summer of 2020.  Flyer is located in the counseling office

Sunrise Side Republican Women's Annual Scholarship

Want to learn about Politics?  Want to participate and gain experience?  The Sunrise Side Republican Women's Club is offering an opportunity to do this and possibly earn a $1,000.00 scholarship.  The candidate must be a female U.S. citizen.  Open to a graduating senior who has been accepted by a public or private institution of higher learning.  They must have a GPA of 3.0 or better and must participate in activities of the Sunrise Side Republican Women's Club.  Applications can be picked up in the counseling office with a deadline date of TBD. 

Oscoda-Wurtsmith Airport Student Scholarship (open to Jrs. & Srs.)

In the past this program has been awarded for flight training ground school and flight lessons. Applicants may now utilize this scholarship for tuition assistance at a university, college or aviation training school.  All application materials can be found in the counseling office or here .  Due to the counseling office TBD.

Sand Lake Women's Auxiliary Scholarship Application

This scholarship is available to seniors (male & female) who qualify from Iosco County with a GPA of 2.75 or higher,  college enrollment status, co-curricular as well as extra-curricular activities relating to the students' community.  Financial need as well as the applicant's intended field of study will be considered in the evaluation process.  Applications are available now in the counseling office or on this fill able doc Sand Lake Scholarship with a deadline to office by TBD. 

Lilley-McDougall Scholarship

This scholarship is available to students that reside in the Curtis Township with a zip code of 48737 or 48761 and be a 2020 graduate or a first time college student seeking a degree in any field and enrolled in a college or university by the fall of the year 2020. Please return form to the counseling office by TBD or before.  

American Business Women's Association Scholarship 

The local chapter of the American Business Women's Association is offering a $2000 scholarship to a FEMALE student who will be attending an accredited U.S. college or university.  Applicants must be a US citizen and reside in AuSable, East Tawas, Glennie, Greenbush, Hale, Harrisville, Lincoln, Mikado, National City, Oscoda, South Branch, or Tawas City.  You must carry a GPA of a 3.5 or higher.  To apply email: Applications must be completed by TBD. 

Howard VanOosten and Dr. Lloyd Wiegerink Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship is intended to assist students attending or registered to attend higher institutions of education in the field of medicine.  A tuition award up to $800 will be granted to anyone interested in furthering their education in health care with preference given to high school seniors.  GPA must be 3.0 or higher, letters of recommendation from three people, minimum of 250 word essay of why you want to be in the healthcare field.  Students must go online to Mid Michigan to apply for this scholarship and others related to the medical field.  Applications are due no later than TBD.

Bopp Busch Manufacturing Company Scholarship

Candidates must be residents of Arenac or Iosco counties, must be planning on attending a post-secondary institution and preference may be given to students following a course of study in the skilled trades.  Fillable  application available here .  Due to the counseling office  TBD.

Masonic Foundation Scholarship

The local Masonic Lodge is offering scholarships for the 2019/2020 school year.  Open to all seniors and past graduates. Applications can be found in the counseling office or on this fill able document Masonic Foundation.   Deadline to the counseling office by TBD.

Ryan Coleman Scholarship

This scholarship was created to perpetuate the memory of Ryan Coleman, a Tawas High School student who died of cancer.  Applicants must be a high school senior who's overall GPA falls between 2.5 and 3.5, however others may apply. Whether you plan on attending a 4 year college, a two year college, vocational school or plan on going right into the workforce.  All may apply. Applications are available in the counseling office or on this fill able application Ryan Coleman  Completed applications must be returned to the High School Counseling Office by: TBD.  

Tawas Kiwanis Club Scholarship

The scholarship is available to ALL SENIORS accepted to a 2 or 4 year college and should be accompanied by one letter of recommendation from a teacher or school administrator and one other letter of  recommendation. Applications available on this fill able document Kiwanis. Deadline date: TBD.

The Quota International Club of Iosco County Scholarship

This $2000.00 scholarship is offered to a high school senior who meets one of these requirements:  Has a documented hearing impairment, has a documented speech communicative disorder (or) plan on working with a teaching hearing, speech impaired persons (or) plans on working in the audiology/speech pathology field.  Applications are available on this fill able document Quota Club with a deadline to the counseling office by TBD.

Fraternal Order of the Eagles

(2) $1,000.00 scholarships will be awarded.  Recommendation letters are needed. This scholarship is available to current seniors only.  Application can be found in the counseling office or use this fill able document Fraternal Order of Eagles  Due date to the counseling office TBD. 

The Association of Tawas Football Alumni Scholarship

Applicants must have been a member of the Tawas Area Football team and are planning on furthering their education after graduation from high school.   Applications are in the high school office or on this fill able form and due back to the Counseling office before TBD.

Any high school senior from the following high schools: Alpena, Arenac Eastern, Au Gres Sims, Hale ,Lincoln-AlconaOscoda, Standish Sterling, Tawas Area, Whittemore-Prescott, along with any Alternative Education Academy of Iosco County may apply. The student must be attending one of the following community colleges during 2020-2021 academic school year:

Alpena Community College
Delta College
Kirtland Community College

McDonald's RAY KROC Youth Achievement Award

A $1,000.00 scholarship is being offered through McDonald's of Tawas for one area high school senior.  This award, named after McDonald's Corporation founder, honors students who demonstrate the exemplified by Ray Kroc- persistence, determination, hard work and all-around excellence. Application are available in this fill able document Ray Kroc please return to the counseling office with a deadline of: TBD. 

Tawas Braves Booster Club Scholarship

The Tawas Braves Booster Club is offering a scholarship to one female senior athlete and one male senior athlete.  Must have been enrolled for four years at Tawas Area High School, played at least two varsity sports in senior year and maintain an overall 2.5 GPA or higher. Tawas Area Federation of Teachers

Applications for the Tawas Area Federation of Teachers (TAFT) Scholarship are downloadable here, to fill in, print and sign.  Application deadline to the counseling office on  TBD.

The Thomas Pintkowski Memorial Scholarship

One female and one male will receive a $500.00 scholarship.  You must have been a member of at least one varsity athletic team during your senior year, plan on attending a post-secondary institution and carry a minimum GPA of 3.0.  Applications are available on this fill able document Thomas Pintkowski Female  and Thomas Pintkowski Male  with a return date to the counseling office TBD.

Whittemore Speedway Scholarship

The Whittemore Racing Club is offering (3) $500.00 scholarships to area high school seniors. Information can be found in the Counseling Office.  Applications are now online or in the counseling office with a deadline to the counseling office TBD.

The Helen Laidlaw Foundation Scholarship

Applications can be found in counseling office or from the link below for students pursuing a career in the health field. Nursing students are given the first priority with second priority going to students entering a Pre-Med field.  Applications are available in a fill able form Helen Laidlaw Scholarship . Return application to the counseling office by TBD. 

The Holy Family Council of Catholic Women Scholarship​​​​​​

Applicants must be members of Holy Family Church, active in the youth ministry, plan on attending post-secondary institution and carry at least a GPA of 2.5.  Applications are available on this fill able document Holy Family with a deadline to the counseling office by TBD.
