High School Stem trip

The students visited the Marine Sanctuary operated by NOAA  in Alpena Michigan.  There they had opportunity to view some presentations from an ROV tech (Remote Operated Vehicles) that works with submersible robots.  They then had an opportunity to build from kits there own submersible robots and use those robots in a small pool to gather materials from the bottom of the pool.  Later the students traveled to ACC where they met with an instructor who showed them larger and more complex submersible robots and then they were able to drive them in simulation mode using computer simulators.  Click here to see some photos on our Facebook page! Knowledge Bowl team

On Tuesday, March 19, Tawas Knowledge Bowl brought home the 2nd place trophy.  Tawas lost to Ogemaw 320 to 395. This final game was an hour long and both schools battled for the lead throughout the game.  Ogemaw took the lead in the first quarter.  Tawas was in the lead by the end of the second quarter.  Being an hour long, the third quarter consisted of two 60-second rounds, instead of one. Tawas kept the lead at the end of the first 60-second round.  Ogemaw reclaimed the lead at the end of the second 60-second round.  It was a tense back and forth battle for points in the fourth, and last, quarter. On the team:  captain Bryce Moon, Chelewynne Shuart, Logan Madrigal-Silver, and Nick Webster, with alternates Emma Brownell and Boden Cabble.
